Well, if they meant the same thing, there wouldn't be any need for one of those words.



These two words are similar but not the same - they have different connotations.



Nice is the more appropriate when talking about what someone is doing, or has done. The actions that they carry out. The behaviour that may indicate the kind of person they are.



Pleasant is sort of a disposition. They ARE pleasant.

Well Mannered.

Polite.

Friendly.

Courteous.



All of these naturally, seeming gentle, a gentle person.



Nice:



The same as above really. Imagine naming somebody one or the other in this circumstance to better understand it.



"That person over there just helped me with my groceries dear; what a ______ person they are".



What goes better in the gap? Nice or Pleasant.



Nice is more of a physical and way of behaving To be nice you have to do something. To be pleasant, all you have to do is smile really.



I believe being nice is an action, and being nice is a state of mind.
